Getting Your Bow Kite Ready for 2:1 (Pulley Bar) & 1:1
The 2006 Shockwave comes with the bar set-up as 2:1 standard (Pulley bar). The kite was developed for precise control and feeling for the ultimate wave riding machine and for the ability to kill power without compromising arm travel.
The following will take you through the simple steps to change your bar for 1:1 or 2:1 configuration which allows you to get the best of both worlds.
Step 1The first step is to remove the Back Bridal Line from the kite’s rear attachment point on the wing tips. This is done by removing the bridal line from the backline attachment point. Once you have undone this, (make sure that you keep the bridal clear and untangled) remove the back bridal line from the kite and reattach the other end back to the Backline attachment point.
Step 2The next step is to create your pig-tails and to get the correct distance between the kite and the knots. You need to tie (3) Figure of Eight knots in the pig tail and these need to be placed at 3cms, 5cm and 9cms from the kite. Measure out the distance and tie a secure Figure of Eight knot at each interval. Attach the Pig Tail to the hang point and attach your Back Bridal Line to the pig-tail with a Lark’s Head knot.
Step 3Now layout your lines as if you were going to rig your kite. Locate your back lines (Red & Blue) and remove these from their leader lines on the bar. (you will need to pull them through themselves.)
Then tie a Figure of Eight knot 24cms down from the top of the Leader line on the Shockbar (The end that attaches to the back coloured lines, NOT the swivel end.)
Once this is done, re-attach your lines.
If you want to continue using the Shockbar with the 2:1 configuration, you now have the added ability to increase or decrease bar pressure.
To obtain lighter bar pressure, attach the back bridal line to the lowest knot on the Pig Tail. This will vastly reduce the amount of bar pressure.
If you want bar pressure, put it to the top knot.
1:1 Configuration
This is where the fun starts. (By reversing this you can also go back and forth between both of these configurations.)First attach the rear bridal line to the top knot on the Pig tail.
Now undo the leader lines from the 2-1 swivel by loosening the Lark’s Head knot.
Next attach the Lark’s Head to the Figure of Eight knot on the leader line.
Finally, repeat this step for the other side too.
Your Bar is now changed to the 1:1 configuration and you can go fly a kite with zero bar pressure! But watch out for that Poo stance when the wind gets up to the upper limits of the kite.
If this happens, come in, land the kite and change back to 2:1.
If your lines are well used, you may need to change the position of the figure of eight knot to make up for stretched front lines. If you find that your kite’s back lines are too slack, shorten them, same applies if they are too short.
