Ruben Lenten Interview

A lot of people are saying that you have the innovation and ability to be number 1, but you lack consistency. What is more important to you - to put it all on the line by trying newer moves on the tour or to stick to moves you know you'll land and ride away?

I like to try new moves and I don’t mind crashing but it needs to stay fun so I try to ride consistent.

Tell us a bit about your lifestyle. You're still pretty young. How does school fit into all of this?

I finished my school last year June so that’s all good, my lifestyle is about traveling a lot, and kiteboarding everyday. I live by the day. I chill a lot and try to not worry about too many things.

What is your aim on the PKRA tour at the moment - is it to be in the  top 5 or is it to be number 1?

My main priority is to stay in the top 5 but yeah of course I try to get number one…it’s hard, Aaron is ripping. This year we had bad luck with the wind but for next year I’ll try again.

The Dutchies seem to be making a lot of noise at the moment. There's you, your brother, Kevin Langeree and who else? Tell us a bit about the Dutch movement.

Nice that you’re asking me that, it’s just what surprised me at the moment. Here at the PKRA Italy event we’ve got Sander Lenten (my bro), Youri Zoon, Roy Zoon, Randy Hereman, Stefan van den Berg, Kevin Langeree and me…but don’t forget the chicks, my cousin Jalou Langere and Katja Roose are ripping at the tour as well. It surprised me how they all improved and go for it, I like it. Good results for the Dutchies, they all made it to the main event.

Who are your main sponsors at the moment?

My sponsors are giving me such good support, and that’s exactly what I need these days. So big thanks to Slingshot, Brunotti, Red Bull, Mystic and Daarom.com
They are giving me the opportunity to live my sport as I do that now.

It looks like you and Aaron get along pretty well. Do you find that things get a bit tense between you and Aaron as a result of the competition between you?

Aaron is awesome, he’s a good friend and he rips like an alien, we’re helping each other during comps and yeah I like to ride with him.
Aaron is the shit!

Keep bringing young people to kiting.
In the future when everybody at your age will be kiting you will remenber your time and would say," We are the responsable for that!" A Sport only grows if there are youngs comming to practice. Thanks for both of you, makes me believe more in kitesurfing !!!!

I've spent 10 days with Ruben in a Kitetrip in Brazil. The PKRA Brazil had finished, and he wanted to see some real north Brazilian wind...
Some Brazilian riders and i took, Ruben e his mother, Ettiene Lothe, Damien Leeroy, Suzi Mai e Clarissa Hempel on a roadtrip to Preá/Jericoacoara.
We'had sessions with winds of 35+ and i can say for sure there's no one in this world that rocks in strong winds like that kid. New killer tricks everyday, Ruben is all adrenaline!
