The distance from airport to Barra do Cunhaú is about 1 hour drive (85km). Take the bus or drive by car from airport south via street number BR101. After about 70km you turn left direct to street number RN269. By the way you pass Canguaretama. After 15 km you are in Barra do Cunhaú.
The best is to rent a car to get around, because Brazil is that big and with your own car you are able to check out all the breathtaking Kite and Surfbeaches in Rio Grande do Norte.
Direct to the spot is situated a comfortable hotel (Blue Dream Hotel) with a perfect equipped Kite- and Surfsportcenter. The resort was cunstructed in the year 2003 in bungalow style and has 18 rooms with restaurant and good food and poolservice. The kitecenter offers storage rooms, compressor, a boat security, lessons, tours, rental and a lot of more.
There are some restaurants with good food and a bar. On weekends in the small center of Barra do Cunhaú are a lot of people - dancing, musik, drinks and food, but normaly here is a quiet place, for sportsmen and romantic evenings. If you want party, plenty of bars, disco til morning, and a lot of people all over the world, go to famous Pipa. I think there is a taxiservice between Cunhaú and Pipa. About 15 minutes drive.
Boat tours, jungle tours, horse back riding or relax on beach or adventure trips and a lot of more.
The living costs are absolut low compared to USA or Europe. If you want to stay in the hotel per person with breakfast for one day is about 40 dollar. If you stay in one of the numerous "pausadas" around the spot you have to pay about 20 dollar p.P. without breakfast. Food and drinks are cheap here in Brazil. You order one plate and it´s enough for 2 people and costs 8 US$. One beer (big one) is about 1 dollar and a "caipirinha" about 2.50.
The main wind season in Barro do Cunhau is from July till end of January. The strongest and most constant wind is from July till November with an average wind speed of 12 to 25 knots. December and January see wind speeds between 10 to 16 knots.
The “wind machine” slowing starts working in the morning and reaches between 10 am and 12 am the wind speed of the day.
Always sunny and temperatures from 28 to 32 degrees whole year around. Water conditions from 26 to 28 degrees. If you want to come for kiteboarding the best is from July till January. Rainseason is from April to June.
If you like small waves because you are practising the first steps on waves, go on the right side of the beach. Here you find (depends of the tides) a big aera to stand in the water and the waves are not that high.
If you prefer more radical waves - left side of the beach. Not for beginners.
Or you are a flat water enthusiast - go kiteboarding in the lagoon.
It´s perfect for biginners too, because there isn´t any crowd, and the spot offers a big stand-deep aera for practice the first steps.
The best thing is, that you can surf, in all parts of the spot with your kite.
Because the lagoon is open to the sea you have to deal with the brazilian tides. There are currents in the front of the spot, only when the water runs out, if you don´t like that - easy - go in the bigger back part of the lagoon, there you find the whole day flat waterconditions.

The spot in Barra do Cunhaú offers wide beaches in a tranquil atmosphere. There is a huge lagoon where you can find perfect flat water, or outside on the Beach, smaller Waves (right beachside), and bigger Waves (left beachside).
There is a green area to start , land and leave the kites near the kiteboarding center or at the beach on sand.
