Giving directions will be a bit useless since there has been road construction in the last year over there. Your best bet is the airline bus. Last year it was 30 kuna(about R40) one way. Also, the bus has aircon(bonus). The bus will take to straight to the ferry in about 40 minutes. From there, go to the Jadrolinija(pronounced yadroliniya)booking office.Check www.Jadrolinija.hr for up to date prices. The boat trip is about an hour to Supertar. When you get to there, the bus station is 10 minutes walk from the ferry jetty. You can hire a car from there. There are a few agencies. If you are on a budget, it's the bus for you again. When you get to the bus station, look for a bus that has Bol/Supertar on the front window.
Public transport in Croatia is quite good. If you want more freedom to site see, hire a scooter or a car.you take a risk either way because Croats are not known to be slow drivers.I still got to see a lot of the island using a bus. It's normally 15 kuna a pop.
I was renting a room from a friend which is illegal there as you have to go through an agency. When you get off the bus, there will be people asking if you need a room. They go through the agencies, so the cost is the same. Stay in rooms. Last year, a room per person sharing a bathroom was a about 100 kuna(R140) a night. Apartments were up to 500kuna a night-per person. Adria tours is normally the cheapest.Camping is also an option.
Restuarant Laguna is good food at good prices. All the other restuarants charge more or less the same. For instance, a plate of spagetti bolognese is about 40 kuna. There is a father and son that run a restuarant from there house. I recommend this as it's homestyle cooking that tastes good,is healthy, fills you up and is really cheap. The service is excellent as well. Just ask the locals where Mr Marianovich's place is. As for the bars? Aquarius, Vara dero and Big blue.
Waterskiing, wakesnakes, bike rides, walks, Tour of the monestery. There is quite a bit there.
Accomodation is above. Work on R200 a day for three meals in the restuarants.A beer will set you back about 10 kuna for a pint. The island bus is about R25 a pop(town to town). Food prices change according to the season.
The locals call it Mystral. It comes from the west. Really stable. mostly 16-22 knots but has been know to go up to 28knots. "bura" comes off the mainland and is gust in Bol. For this wind, go to a town called Povlja. Warning, I got caught in a 42knot gust. It was blowing about 30 at the time. Not for the inexperienced.
June to early july is the cheapest. From then to late august is expensive and crowded.
The water is about 19 degrees celcius in summer. Does get a bit choppy sometimes.
Stay out of the bathing area. Avoid other kiters on the water.windsurfers. Don't go to far into the bay as the wind is killed by the trees(you'll see what I mean if you wander too close to the Big Blue windsurf station.
There isn't actually a local fraternity. All though there are a few Hungarian kiters that come every summer. Really a friendly bunch.
The only "ligit" center there is yellowcat and I used to work for them. I left them after a huge fallout over safety measures. The nearest stocked shop is in Slovenia. So basically, be self sufficient if you go there.
Don't piss the local lifeguards off. These guys are collossal, don't speak English and have the authority to kick every kiter off that beach.
There is no one there that will rescue you if you get into shit. If they do, they want money. I did a lot of rescuing there because it's in my nature. I was offered a lot of drinks among other things for my good deeds. Give our guys a good name and help out where you can. It may take one person to slowly make things better for everyone, but it can also take one person to screw it all up in a split second!
Terrible. All pebbles, crowded with sunbathers and kiters that really don't care about safety. The one at Zoo station is a pontoon that is 25-30m offshore. The rider must stand on the pontoon and the kite on the land. The wind is very gusty there and I heard of an Italian kiter that nearly got killed there the previous year. If you can, rig up on the beach and launch off a boat. I will give tips on that if needed.
