Kiteboarding Ashworths beach

Ashworths is half hour North of Christchurch. Difficult to find, but trick is to look for the sign saying welcome to the Hurunui District and turn right onto a dirt road. 5min and you get to a "parking area" and the start of a sand track... don't go further without 4x4!

The NE is cross onshore and can be anything from a light breeze to grab that tiny kite and hold on! And is generally the wind condition you'd get kiting here in.

A long shore current makes it a challenge to stay up wind in marginal conditions, but the wave riding is sweet and the wind (NE) is normally stronger here than at the beach in ChCh.

There aren't many of the locals that bother heading up here to kite, because when it's on here it's normally on at the Estuary in Christchurch, but most of them know about the spot.

There are a couple of shops and board makers in Christchurch. The guys are great and will help in anyway if they can. Shops www.kitesports.co.nz & www.eastcoast.co.nz. Boardbuilders www.decaykiteboards.co.nz & undergroundkiteboards.com

This is the transition area from pebbly to sandy beach, becoming sandier closer to ChCh. A 2 min walk from "carpark" over dunes onto beach. Some small dunes you can shelter behind while rigging if required.
